FYP roadmap: title > proposal > chapters 1-5 > presentation
In short: most final year projects follow the same path: choose a title, write and get approval for a proposal, build or collect your data, write chapters 1 to 5, then present. Starting each step early, and checking each against your rubric, is what keeps FYPs on schedule.
- Title. Narrow a broad interest into a problem you can finish in one or two semesters.
- Proposal. Problem statement, objectives, scope, method and timeline, approved by your supervisor.
- Chapter 1, Introduction. Background, problem, objectives, scope and significance.
- Chapter 2, Literature review. What is known, what is missing, and which theory or technology you will use.
- Chapter 3, Methodology. Design, data or system development approach, tools and analysis plan.
- Chapter 4, Results and discussion. What you found or built, tested and interpreted.
- Chapter 5, Conclusion. Answers to your objectives, limitations and future work.
- Presentation. A short, structured talk and a defence of your choices.

Choosing and refining an FYP title
A good FYP title is specific, measurable and achievable in your timeframe. A weak one is a topic ("Social media and students"), not a study.
We use a simple test with students:
- Who or what is being studied?
- What exactly will you measure, build or compare?
- Where or when (the context)?
- Can you get the data, equipment or access you need within one semester?

FYP proposal and report review

Proposal review checks
- Do the problem statement, objectives and research questions match one another?
- Is the scope small enough to finish?
- Does the method actually answer the objectives?
- Is the timeline realistic and tied to deliverables?
Report review checks
- Chapter structure, headings and flow.
- Whether the literature review builds towards your gap, rather than listing papers.
- Whether results and discussion answer each objective.
- Referencing, figures, tables and formatting.

IT, engineering and business FYP support
